DOMINICA WELCOMES FIRST AMBASSADOR FROM HUNGARY
His Excellency Balaz Attila Heincz has been appointed as the first ever Ambassador of Hungary to the Commonwealth of Dominica.
This as His Excellency presented his credentials to President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin on Monday, March 27 2023 at the State House.
President Savarin stated that this agreement between the two countries will help them manage water as a sustainable resource to meet human demand.
“Worthy of note are the areas of interest identified and agreed upon by Your Excellency and Ambassador Matthew Walter that seek to advance bilateral cooperation between both our countries, to include areas of Agriculture, water management, sports and higher education, and also your Government’s readiness to exchange information and experience in the fields of integrated river basin management, planning, drinking and waste water management, flood management, water resource management, trans-boundary cooperation as well as water related education. Like Hungary, Dominica is blessed with an abundance of water, particularly among the small island states of the Eastern Caribbean and we embrace the proposed aforementioned exchange that is geared at maintaining water as a sustainable resource to protect the water environment and to meet current and future human demands,” President Savarin stated.
His Excellency Savarin noted that Hungary is an important partner for Dominica and the wider Caribbean as the region faces numerous external challenges such as climate change.
“Your Excellency, we look forward to the growing presence of Hungary in the Caribbean Region and to the further strengthening of relationships both bilaterally and multilaterally in dealing with the challenges confronting Small Island Developing States and land locked states, and more particularly the devastating effects of climate change, COID-19, rising incidents of crime and violence and the ongoing Russia/Ukraine war, all of which call for a collective effort to combat the disastrous effects of these threats which put the well-being of our people and the entire world at risk,” he explained.
The President also spoke to the sanctions against Venezuela and Cuba, where the new Hungarian Ambassador will be residing. President Savarin says the Hungary Government could assist in the call for the lifting of the sanctions against the two countries.
“The Government of Hungary could help Cuba and Venezuela to resolve their challenges and improve the lives of their peoples, not only by joining with the voices of many other countries which call for the immediate lifting of the unjustified sanctions imposed on the people of Cuba and Venezuela, but by taking concrete action to create a zone of peace in the Caribbean,” President Savarin added.
He then wished the new ambassador a successful term stating “I hope that Your Excellency’s assignment will be a fruitful and rewarding one for your family,” adding “your country has been able to count on the support of the commonwealth of Dominica in elections in various international bodies and we hope to be able to continue to lend that support in future instances whenever circumstances permit.”
Newly appointed Ambassador His Excellency Balaz Attila Heincz stated that this is the first step in creating stronger bilateral relations.
“We are here to explore all those possibilities and potential which reside between our two countries because we have seen that you have had many experiences in different sector policies. We are ready to explore those possibilities. We hope that in such areas as higher education and water management, we can further strengthen those possibilities. I am very much honored to hand over those credentials and I am very convinced that this is the beginning of a fruitful cooperation between or two countries,” Ambassador Balaz Attila Heincz stated.
Dominica and Hungary established diplomatic relations in 2008.
